The weather forecast was nothing but doom and gloom and, in all honesty, the day chosen was not the best one of the week, but the English Nature celebration entitiled 'The Stodmarsh Wildlife Art and Photography Event' went off surprisingly well........
The day started with a few people coming through the 'door' of the large marquee erected in the first field for the event. A new gate had even been put in the fence to allow folks access. The attendance was cut down somewhat as the first of the promised showers turned up, but overall, considering that forecast, we got off pretty lightly. A trickle of people continued throughout the day including a few familiar ones who came along to support (or see just what we were up to). Thanks therefore to Jill and Nigel, Tony and Alan for your support. Who took pics without a CF card? I did, of course, take some pictures of the stand but, as you can see here, got home only to find that particular camera didn't have a CF card in it! Doh! My excuse is that I had been up 'til 3 in the morning printing images and assembling such wonderful novelties as Coasters and Fridge magnets. You can laugh, but over half the stock that was made sold, and if there had been any real attendance, the whole lot would have gone without a doubt. Congratulations should also go to Nick, who managed to sell a print of one of his images, and one that some people even laughed at him for trying to take at the last Monkton meeting! Well done Nick. Nick's print of Monkton and the life cycle of the Burnet Moth caused a lot of interest and sold a print, giving Nick the last laugh on this one. It is the intention of English Nature, or Natural England as it will become on 1st October, to hold more of this type of event in the future, with thought given to the problems that were realised from this one. We said when asked afterwards, that we would support any future efforts, perhaps as a group next time, rather than individual photographers. We look forward to hearing their plans. |
