As most of the people who know me on the site would agree, it is very unusual for me to get up and be out before 9am, some might even say 10am. Well on Monday I was up at 3am, yes you’re reading that right 3am and no it isn’t a typo!!!!
The reason was I was heading out to Oare marshes to photograph the sunrise. As Kent Wildlife Trust had requested photographs of the marshes I thought an early morning shot would look really good. Now I’d done the sensible thing the night before and checked the weather reports which all showed sun shine and cloud. Unfortunately someone changed them in the middle of the night to rain with out telling me. So when I arrived there at just before 5am it was throwing it down. Lesson learned, I will in future check the weather report just before I leave the house. That Kingfisher! Having spent about an hour at Oare with only a slight break in the weather I decide to move onto Stodmarsh were I’d agreed to meet up with Ian. 3 hours later Ian walked in looking like a mobile version of Jessops with all the gear he was carrying. Mind you that was partly my fault as he did have a new toy for me. Once we had settled down and I’d stopped acting like a child on Christmas morning, who should turn up but our old friend the Kingfisher. After another two visits and a very nice shot by Ian, which he was that happy about he actually got up and walked round the hide showing everyone. We decided to call it a day and head home, only to bump into Tony on the way to the car. He wasn’t very impressed with the fact that Ian had managed to get a good shot from being there 2 hours when he had only seen the Kingfisher fly past the day before for 6 hours in the hide. |
