Back in the spring there was a lot of interest shown in a Penduline Tit seen by a number of people at Stodmarsh. We published, on the old site, what was probably the best image of the bird, taken by Brett Lewis. By a strange coincidence, Brett has managed a second sighting this week!
This time, he got an image which, by his increasingly high standards he admits is nowhere near as good, but useful for identification purposes. the image was taken from the Turf Field hide and shows the subject in the bushes to the side of the hide. Brett's image, taken on 3rd November 2006 A couple o questions do spring to mind. Is it the same bird as earlier in the year, stopping by on its travels? And, if so, has it bred in this country in the meantime? Penduline Tit taken at Stodmarsh earlier this year. On a not so pleasant note, this morning I saw a harlequin Ladybird sitting quite happily on, of all places, my office ceiling! With Tortoiseshell butterflies still floating around at the beginning of November, (I saw one yesterday morning) I tend to wonder whether Global warming is having a far more rapid effect than many of us realise? Harlequin ladybird on my office ceiling! |
